Cymer is the Welsh word for confluence, where rivers meet.
Markets tend to separate opportunities into boxes: growth or value, developed or emerging markets, sector by sector.
We look where those streams converge.
Our investment philosophy starts with a simple premise: businesses solving real, recurring problems often benefit from demand that persists across economic cycles.
We underwrite resilience first, applying a short-seller's skepticism to identify businesses with resilient demand, durable competitive advantages, and attractive long-term reward-to-risk profiles.
Capital follows familiarity. Opportunity does not.
The investment universe is much larger than the S&P 500. Investments outside the US and across investment styles can deliver complementary risk profiles and meaningful diversification.
Cymer was founded to pursue this opportunity through a concentrated, long-only international equity strategy focused on mid- to large-cap companies outside the United States.
Cymer invests to compound capital.
Businesses that solve real problems often benefit from durable demand. Businesses that rely on cycles, themes, or subsidies do not.
We do not market the strategy as ESG, impact, or sustainable investing.
In public markets, buying a listed stock does not directly fund a company or determine how it operates. At Cymer, we identify high quality businesses and allocate capital based on expected risk and return.
We use financial and non-financial data to assess business quality, competitive durability, and risk.
Confluence is a newsletter from Cymer, where we publish our thinking. Notes on problem-solving businesses, durable demand, valuation, and risk.
Samantha D'Amore founded Cymer Capital after more than two decades in institutional investing.
Raised in Wales and a first-generation college graduate, Sam earned a degree in Physics from Harvard University and developed an investment approach grounded in first principles thinking, combining a short-seller's skepticism with a long-term owner's patience.
Before founding Cymer, Sam served as a Managing Director at Jennison Associates, a Portfolio Manager at Trillium Asset Management, and an analyst at Sound Energy Capital Management and Credit Suisse.
